Time to write

There are times when the words just have to fly out. I can’t keep them in. I really wish I could but the harder I try to keep it in the more it wants to escape. I had such an experience one June day at 3 am in the morning when the beginning of a short story began to form in my head. I tried to sleep, honestly I did, but sleep evaded me, like the chicken that you can never catch it just kept running away from me. This story grew and grew and grew until I had to let it out, like releasing gas in the classroom that you did your best to hold in, so I got up and switched my laptop on.
writing in the morning
I was hoping no one would mind. I had promised not to bring my laptop with me. We were in a tent in the middle of the Caribbean mountains and amazingly there was an internet connection! I could hardly believe my luck. Trouble was there was no electricity for my laptop but the battery was more than half full. That gave me enough time to write down the idea and create the skeleton of my newest fiction tale.

I began to write. To keep me company I had the sounds of animals moving outside.  I hadn’t realized the light was attracting them. I continued to write and saved my story as a draft on my blog.

A HUGE moth found and hit my screen, drunk with delight it flapped about making it difficult for me to continue writing. I screamed. Woke up the three other people in the tent and found myself being lectured on the addiction of technology by a pissed off boyfriend. I had broken my promise to him. Worse than that I had lied because he thought I didn’t have it with me. Still I was beyond happy. I had the beginnings of a great story saved to my blog and 10 months later it helped me win a writer’s competition and $900 cash prize. The boyfriend was long gone.
