Zyanne – Bohemian Poet (BohPo)
I live in Bedfordshire (England) and have recently decided (November 2012) that my desire to be a writer is one I need to work on fulfilling. My parents are from the Caribbean (an island called Dominica – not the Dominican Republic – the Commonwealth of Dominica) and I love spending time there. My wish is to spend the cold English winter months in the hot Caribbean sun…. someday.
One day I told someone my name (Diane) and they thought I said Zyanne. I thought it was so pretty I decided to adopt it as my pen name!
I like to call myself a Bohemian. It helps to explain my ‘weirdness’. Below is my definition of a Bohemian. I exist in all of these. I desperately wanted to fit in and now I understand that to be different is to be an individual. I am a creative Bohemian. I look Bohemian. Bohemianism is my life.
My poetry follows my own rules and comes from the heart. They are my thoughts and words put down onto paper. Most of it based on my life – memoir poetry is what I like to call it. Some of it made up from fact and turned into fiction.
I also write flash fiction stories. Fictionalised stories mainly but not always. These are very short stories under 1,000 words. I released my first book in October 2013 (less than 12 months after deciding to have at it) and it is called The Last Hut and 29 other flash fiction stories. Also available on Kindle. Now I just want to share what I write. All of my work is over at my main blog Pen and I.com
Bohemians believed in living outside of the bourgeois (conventional, middle class) mainstream culture and believed that art and literature should be radical.
Somebody who leads an alternative lifestyle, they are not hippies because they can have an extremely wide range of different tastes in music, fashion, art, literature etc they are usually very creative people.
- They are above all optimists, even if they can be very cynical too
- They like mixing different fashions together just for the heck of it.
- They like weed 🙂
- Generally very laid back and relaxed.
- Bohemians try to live by the ideals of truth, freedom love and all those beautiful-sounding concepts.
- Someone who does their own thing
- An individual looked upon in society as strange and different.
- Imagination controls a Bohemian’s life, a lot of time destroying them in the process.
Bohemians care very little for money (not true in my case!) There are wealthy and privileged (even aristocratic) Bohemian circles and we are referred to as the haut boheme (“high bohemians”)
They live for their craft (is true in my case) and money is a means of survival (and nice travel, great clothes and being able to share it with charities, family and whoever the hell I choose to – if I choose to)
My ideal life is travelling the world, living in different hot countries during the cold English winters and selling my work to magazines, through ebooks, books, kindle and any other way available to me. I am also quite generous and give a lot away.
